O3. Choice

I think that everybody has at least one person in their life that is not related to them, but they consider family. In my life that would be my brother’s best friend, Jake Stockweather. I have known him for a very long time and we have a brother-sister relationship. He is always at my house. Even on Christmas day he was at my house eating Christmas Dinner with my whole family. Jake is also such a nice kid and even sometimes I’m really mean to him because he annoys me, but he is always nothing but nice to me. Multiple times late at night he would pick me up from places and take me home or back to my friend’s house if we needed a ride no matter what. A few weeks ago on a very early Friday morning Jake was driving to work when he got hit by a drunk driver. Jake sustained life threatening injuries. Everybody always says you don’t know what you have until its gone, but no one ever takes that into consideration until something impacts their life. Not knowing and waiting for Jake to get out of surgery was the scariest thing. Everybody close to Jake felt such anger toward the man who hit Jake. Of course, the drunk driver was barely hurt at all and he was a 44 year old paramedic who still lives with his parents. It makes me sick to think someone who helps other people when they are hurt and has seen so much would even think to drive drunk. The first time I saw Jake in the hospital was the day after he got into the accident. His mom told us that we should talk to him because he might be able to hear us. The next day Jake was able to nod his head and open his eyes. Now Jake is finally home and doing much better. With a lot of physical therapy he should be able to walk again in 3 months. Words cannot even describe how thankful I am to still be able to see Jake and have him be alive. I really despise the man who did this to Jake. I have no respect for people who drive drunk, they really ruin peoples’ lives.
